About the Hall of Fame

Rocheport has a long and impressive history; from 1815 to the middle of the 19th century, the mainstream of American history moved westward through Boone County. Untold numbers of travelers took the Rocheport Ferry across the Missorui River to connect with the Santa Fe Trail for their move west.

Initiated in 2018, the Friends of Rocheport Historical Society Hall of Fame exists to remember those early citizens who brought fame and glory to Rocheport. Inductees are honored in a community ceremony followed by a reception. Inductees include:

  • 2018 – Charles Chandler and William Woods, business leaders
  • 2019 – Dorothy Caldwell and Moses Payne, community leaders
  • 2021 – Isadore and Daisy Broadus, town welcoming couple, and Moses Barth, businessman
  • 2022 – The Slade Family, postmasters
  • 2023 – John and Vicki Ott, preservationists and developers; first living members inducted
  • 2024 – Dr. Andrew Walker McAlester, founder of the University Medical School, and his father Brightberry McAlester, prominent Boone County resident
  • 2025 – Ted and Pat Jones, founders of the Katy Trail in Rocheport
  • 2026 – Colonel Robert Caskie, tobacco processor and “Hermit of the Wabash”
